Career Readiness

We expose our scholars to various career opportunities and provide them with the information they need to pursue those careers.

Scholarship Preparation Program

Our scholarship prep program prepares our students for receiving awards by engaging them in rigorous ACT preparation classes and test taking skills.

White Coat Ceremony

The Ivy Center for Education, in partnership with UAMS South Central, presented its second Virtual White Coat Ceremony on Thursday, April 22, 2021, at 6:00 PM. Speaker: Dr. Marquita S. Norman, MD, MBA

The Program was live streamed on the Ivy Center for Education's Facebook Page.

Many thanks to our Club Scrub Instructor, Mrs. Renisha Ward and our sponsors:

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Delta Omega Omega Chapter; Blue and You Foundation; Youth Advisory Council (YAC), Synergy Forum, Inc.; Jefferson Regional Medical Center; First Sisters Outreach, Inc.; University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Pre-Health Students and all our community supporters.

Scholars received their White Coat, Certificate, Medal, Stethoscope, and a book entitled Pulse of Perseverance (story of 3 Black Doctors who kept each other encouraged to complete medical school).

Character Building

Martin Luther King’s famous “I have a Dream” speech,,,:

These words were our inspiration and guidance to work with our youth in bringing them into the 21st century free from crime, and no direction to achieving a career.  From 2004-2006, we routinely serviced K-12 offering after school tutoring, breakfast and healthy snacks.

Character building was an important feature in our programming because it helped the students learn respect for one another and their community.  We advanced this activity through community forums with the Pine Bluff Police Department and City Mayor.

ACT Test Prep

The Ivy Center for Education, Incorporated seeks to offer a multifaceted challenge of improving college and career readiness in part through contractual arrangements with Dr. Charity Smith/Fetterman & Associates, Inc.

Objectives:  Since COVID-19, we pivoted to provide ACT Boot Camps Online in Order to help ensure our scholars stay ready for College and Careers.

While many schools seek to reduce achievement gaps and increase equitable outcomes for students, eliminating these gaps is a complex process and requires the support of multiple stakeholders, a variety of long-term interventions, and policy changes. Without immediate assistance, higher education will remain an unfulfilled dream for many students in Pine Bluff and surrounding areas.

The culminating activity is a virtual ceremony where each student receives his or her first white coat. A physical reminder that their goal is attainable with support and love for their community.

The overall goal of the program is to help students apply virtual engineering principles and concepts to learn more about the technical and political processes of urban planning and pollution control.
